Work in Progress Wednesday

Long time, no see... There has been little activity from me here on this blog lately, due to travel and life in generally, But now I am back on track and can show you some progress.

First is my little travel project: A tiny little owl cross stitch kit I won from Theresa over at BumbleberryStitches in a blog hop this spring. When this little owl is done I will incorporate it in a zippered pouch, most likely. The perfect fabric to surround the owl is already acquired, and I know the pouch will be super cute!

My other project is bigger, this will be a wedding gift for my nephew and his soon to be bride. For the first time in my life I am making a two-colored solid quilt. The colors are not the best on this picture in indoor lighting, but it is teal and a light aqua. All the pieces for the quilt has been cut, so now I just have to assemble them. This will eventually become an optical illusion quilt. I will show more updates later.

Until then, keep on quilting!

Quilt Doodle BOM 2015 - May's Blocks

For the month of May there were two blocks to appliqué for the BOM My Favorite Things. First out is the Birthday Cake.

I made a sweet pink cake with white icing which contained lots of white hearts on white (not easy to see in this picture). I like the old fashioned look of the cake stand. Three candles in darker pink tops the cake. Lots of tiny glass beads will be sewn on the cake after the quilting is done.

The second block really wants me to go out and work in the garden! Look at these nice flowers and the hard working bee! Buttons will be attached to the flowers later, in addition to embroidery of the flight of the bee.

ALYoF 2015 Goal for May Achieved - Bubbles

My ALYoF goal for May is achieved, see goal post here.

The design of the runner comes from Fat Quarter Shop, and it is called Mini Charm Mix. I didn't use a mini charm pack for my project, all my squares and rectangles are cut from yardage and scraps.

I am very pleased with the color selection of the table runner, a cool palette. It reminds me of the ocean on a nice summer day.

The quilting is a combination of straight line with the walking foot lengthwise, and FMQ on diagonal(ish) lines with circles of varying sizes incorporated. With these circles the name of my runner stood out clear for me: Bubbles!

The backing is an old print from Ikea. In my mind the blue and white fabric looks like Dutch porcelain; perfect for a backing!

This is another stash buster of mine, all the fabrics come from my stash. The binding is a teal solid.

ALYoF 2015 Goal for May

Last month I started this table runner as an in-between project, the Mini Charm Mix.

My goal for May is to piece, quilt and bind these squares and rectangles into a good looking table runner that will be gifted to friends.

The color combination of this runner is one I particularly enjoy, can't wait until it is finished!

My 1 Hour Basket

After seeing this post at A Quilter's Table, I wanted to make a basket of my own. The 1 hour basket tutorial at KelbySews is easy to follow.

I used home decor weight fabric that I quilted with cotton batting, and used another home decor fabric for the lining. Cotton batting in the handles makes them sturdy.

The basket is roomy, and I can store lots of fat quarters in it, for instance.

A colorful first finish for May, indeed!
